ESCUELA ARTESANIAS de las FILIPINAS iFashion Academy is an innovative vocational school focusing on crafts and design for livelihood and entrepreneurship.
iFashion stands for International Fashion Academy for Specific Home-land Industries and On-line Networks. Fashion preceeds other categories in design such as home, lifestyle and textiles. Fashion constantly change. The school core competency is teaching design-led crafts specific to homeland industries in the Philippines.
There are no laboratories in the school, instead, the students will do their lab works in the workshops and livelihood centers in the communities, thereby, the students will work where the materials and artisans' skills are.
Each class is usually short terms as short as half a day or three weeks. The classes have small number of students in a inter-active around the table format to allow better interactions and collaborations.
The school teaches crafts and design with provenance of the materials and techniques. Refered to as endemic design as well, the method of teaching it based on available local materials and skills for it to be sustainable. It teaches ethical, green and socially responsible fashion and design. Design become geographically indicated for localities in the Philippines.
The teaching method is anchored on stimulating the points of view of students to be experts in artisanal fashion, design-led crafts and level-up skills in modern design sensibilities and innovations.
Each student is taught on the premise that design means business by moulding them to be entrepreneurs rather than as employees, thereby, creating industries towards nation building.
The school offers courses even to children and teens because it believes training them should during formative years. It offers also a mother and child learning to promote the question of succession in the languishing crafts so the young ones will carry on these in the next generations. It has special art and craft classes for senior citizens.
It also inculcate to students that a college education is not necessarily an advantage in the creative world, thereby, giving them an alternative way for other career paths other than the traditional ways through baccalaureate degrees or working abroad. The school offers scholarships to youths who can not afford to go to school, specially to children of artisans.
These are in majority deserving rural students, mostly children of craftsmen or young people within the crafts cluster. It also conducts annual design competitions for scholarship called Hecho Derecho in which in-coming students and already enrolled in may avail of free tuition by competing in design contests. The school has also its working student and on-the-job training program.
The school connects with the artisans' workshops and community livelihood centers through on-line, thereby, upgrading the design methods through information technology and digital media. Design-led crafts and artisanal fashion becomes relevant where the crafts community is its laboratory.
It embraces design through innovation with the green collar economy in mind while creating design-led crafts which preserves the cultural. social, environmental and nature heritage of the Philippines.
The school is located in a restored 1920 building along the heritage row of Iloilo City.
The building was the first international hotel in the city where national and international who’s who stayed. It overlooking the Iloilo straight and the Iloilo City Capitol and the majestic old world edifices of the Queen’s City of the South.

• Payment at the school: Cash payment is acceptable before the classes at the school. Pay at the school admin office.
• Fee cancellation: The school will only refund 50% of the fee 3 days before any attendance is cancelled. The school will not refund cancellations on the day of the class. Change of schedule when needed by students can be moved to other timings is instead encouraged.

• Scholarship Program: Students may avail of the scholarship through our individual or corporate sponsors. Fill up the enrollment form and the school will call the applicant for an interview. The school launches design competitions for which the prizes are in the form of scholarships.
• Working Student, On-the-job Training, Internship. Applicants will submit a letter of intent to the school address to Mr. PJ Aranador. Application will be approved on the basis of qualifications and available matching programs at the school. The applicant can attend classes by working at the school.
• Extension Program. The school accepts extension class program outside of the school premises such as those in communities, other campuses or livelihood centers. Email Mr. PJ Aranador your letter of intent and enquiries.

• Subject Description: An artisanal skill course on visual and practical arts. Methods on how to prime earthen ware from Hibaon, Pavia, Iloilo. Lessons on the science of combining colors using acrylic paint. Step by step painting techniques on creative process to teach innovative thinking. The students will bring home their creations as a link and reminder of their explorations with the local arts and crafts.
• Age group: 4 to 12 years old. Mothers can be with the child during the workshop through our Mother and Child Enhancement Program. Juniors or Senior Citizens may still enroll in this workshop as an option.
• Requirements: Old news papers, rags, old pieces of fabrics, old or recycled plates or dishes to mix paint, old tooth brushes, small water container, some brushes, if you have. School will provide the pots ,some brushes and acrylic colors.
• Fees: Php 650 per student. A 15% discount will be given to the first three enrollees and for enrollment for a group of five (5) students. School will provide basic materials such as acrylic colors and pots.

Subject Name: Jewelry Stranding
Subject Code: 004-SS17 Subject Competency: Craft Skills
• Subject Description: Artisans skills training to strand beads to create jewelry pieces such as necklaces, bracelets earrings and anklets. Proper way to use findings and fittings including closures of jewelry. Techniques to the aesthetics of simple jewelry creations as crafts which can be a source of livelihood. The students will take home their creations to give as gifts, sell or wear as a testimony of the new acquired skills. Best for the mother to accompany the child during this workshop.
• Age group: 4 to 12 years old. Mothers can be with the child during the workshop through our Mother and Child Enhancement Program. Juniors or Senior Citizens may still enroll in this workshop as an option.
• Requirements: Cutter blade, scissors, white fabric like bedsheet or pillow case, big needles, old or recycled plates or dishes to mix paint, old tooth brushes, small water container, some brushes, if you have. School will provide the the jewelry tools, special cutters, beads and jewelry findings.

• Subject Description: Skills training in making dolls using upcycling techniques from thrown away or discarded dolls as carcasses into arts-y pieces using the French technique for decoupage which is to use paper mache and layering over with muslin or gauge fabric. The craft moves on to priming and painting the body and until they are dressed up to a certain style. The students bring home their crafts to treasure.
• Age group: 4 to 12 years old. Mothers can be with the child during the workshop through our Mother and Child Enhancement Program. Juniors or Senior Citizens may still enroll in this workshop as an option.
• Requirements: Any used plastic or acrylic dolls, example, unexpensive plastic dolls, retired Barbie dolls. ( We can also sell dolls carcass on site ), old assorted retaso fabrics ( we will also provide, if you do not have them), news paper, white tissue paper, cutter blade, scissors, needles, old or recycled plates or dishes to mix paint, old tooth brushes, small water container, some brushes, hair dryer, if you have.

• Subject Description: Practical arts skills training in papier mache, a crafts that is versatile. The course include mould making and preparations of the papier mache, dried, cut-off and primed until it painted. Finishing techniques included. The students have the opportunity to bring home their finished product.
• Age group: 4 to 12 years old. Mothers can be with the child during the workshop through our Mother and Child Enhancement Program. Juniors or Senior Citizens may still enroll in this workshop as an option.

Description: Visual art for future painters through basic painting lessons.
Use of acrylic paint as medium. Starting on a demo on how to mount a canvas on
frame, priming it and until it is ready to paint. Lessons in color principles
included. Painting techniques and
tutorials on styles until the canvas is done with finishings. The student takes
home the painting. Same technique as applied arts can be adapted for textile
based surfaces.
