The BEAUTEOUS CENTRALIANS of Central Philippines.

Vanessa Caro in one of her Miss Universe pageant activities

Vanessa Caro and Louise Vail Aurelio both Centralians. They too have same facial similarities.

The BEAUTEOUS CENTRALIANS  of  Central  Philippines.
Miss Universe Philippines Iloilo Province 2022 Vanessa Caro graduated from BS in Finance and Accountancy  at Central Philippine University (CPU) , an American established Christian school, in Jaro, Iloilo City.  Those who are studying and graduated from CPU are called Centralians.

The first ever finalist in Miss Universe from Bb.Pilipinas was a Centralian,   Louise Vail Aurelio,  a Filipino American, from Jaro, Iloilo. She  topped the 15 semi-finalists in Miss Universe in Florida, USA in 1965.  She was only 18 years old at that time.

CPU has the oldest campus beauty contest in the country since the turn of the century, a legacy of the Americans to Ilonggos. CPU has the highest number of Miss Iloilo Dinagyang winners too, it's last was under my wings, hopefully it will resume again soon to continue it's 30 years legacy. Vanessa was Miss Iloilo Dinagyang 2016.CPU also produced many local and national pageant winners.

In 2013, I had the chance to dress up Miss Louise Vail Aurelio along with Miss Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1969,  who were both judges  for the Miss CPU High School Centennial which I organized  being an alumnus  and recipient of the Most Outstanding Centralian on its 100th year.
Oftentimes Miss Vanessa Caro is tagged as a look-a-like of Miss Gloria Diaz, the first Miss Universe winner from the Philippines in 1969

Vanessa Caro was born in Hawaii,. Her father is from Calinog, Iloilo and her mother is of Filipino-  Hawaaiin-Portuguese-Spanish and Chinese descent. She moved to Iloilo at 8 years old and lived in Iloilo for 16 years and returned back in 2022.

As a Centralian, I am proud to represent Vanessa Caro as her Accredited Partner for Miss Universe Ph Iloilo Province.  Mr Dennis Mallada, discoverer of Vanessa is also a Centralian.
After CPU, Vanessa took up her Master’s Degree in Professional Studies in Public Relations  at the City University of  New York in USA.

The current Miss Universe Ph Iloilo City,  Miss Dorothy Gemillan, is also from CPU, a  third-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student.

TRIVIA.
The first ever beauty queen from the Philippines was from Iloilo, Maria Kalaw Katigbak, winning the  Carnival de Filipinas in 1928 a pre-cursor to Miss Philippines.

Louise said at Miss Universe in Florida, nothing was rigid, she had her headband on and was ready to go!

She is so simple until today and we'll dressed. Fitting a gown I did for here was calculative for me as she cuts and stitches her own gowns!

Ilongga serene beauty

said the Miss U pageant in the past was not as demanding as it is today although like today, they did their own hair and make-up too

Vanessa  was taught the art of Polynesian dance by her mother Patricia who is also a dance artist of this genre.

Her mother was a dance instructor which took her to Japan and consequently established a dance school in Jaro, Iloilo City, Philippines where Vanessa together with her father and mother moved from Hawaii when she was 8 years old and stayed in the country until she pursued

For both mother and daughter team, the performing arts in dance is also a way to stay fit.

Vanessa Caro: THE ARTIST MOTHER & HER MIRROR IMAGE IN A DAUGHTER.

THE ARTIST MOTHER & HER MIRROR IMAGE IN A  DAUGHTER.

I met the mother of Vanessa Caro, Miss Universe Philippines Iloilo Province 2022, while visiting Vanessa in her flat at Aruga, Rockwell in Makati. Her name is Patricia Kehaulani Chang.

Of course, she is beautiful. Of course, she is tall. Of course, she has the thin waistline her age like Vanessa has hers in her prime. But of course, she is so nice. A soft spoken Ilongga who is as delicate as a cattleya.

While Vanessa looks more Asian while  her mom looks more Caucasian, the hints of multi-ethnic beauties sparkle clearly. Ergo,  the first thing I asked was Patricia’s roots. Her father was from Cebu  and her mom from Hawaii where Patricia  was born and raised.

Patricia has Portuguese Spanish and Chinese bloodline. It just explains why Vanessa went to a Chinese school in Iloilo City, the Hua Siong College. With her multi-ethnicity comes her multi-lingual tongue including the local dialect Ilonggo. She went to finish her degree in accounting at Central Philippine University, a school established by the Americans, in Jaro, Iloilo City.

If you’re a daughter, your mother is one person  who will always be able to embrace you.  I witnessed that with the duo. The mirror image is---  Vanessa is closest to her mom embracing her as if  she is her friend her age.

Patricia is now a single parent whose husband, an engineer,  took the boat from the Philippines to Hawaii and became a successful construction entrepreneur for many years.   With his  humble beginnings in Hawaii,  the  pure-blooded Ilonggo from Calinog, Iloilo, had an inspiring story.  His hometown, a place of the mountain dwelling tribe of Panay Bukidnon– the largest indigenous peoples of Iloilo province,  are grounding  Vanessa’s  core  advocacy to empower Filipino women including culture bearers and artisans of this tribe. It comes in full circle for Vanessa much to honor the roots of her father.

Patricia is a polynesian dance artist and instructor in Waikiki, Hawaii where she taught young girls and adults the art of hula and tahitian dance for 30 long years. She also taught the art form in Japan and  consequently put up a dance school in Jaro, Iloilo City.

She taught the polynesian dance to Vanessa at age two who succeeded to teach the art as well  and consequently  donated her earnings to charity.  Even when Vanessa was at the City  University of New York  for her Master’s Degree in Professional Studies and Public Relations  or in Iloilo competing for Miss Iloilo Dinagyang which she won in 2016, she went on-line to dance. Dance is her fitness regimen as well. Add marathon, too.

Vanessa’s parents have long been philanthropists  whose dedication to help the needy out of their volunteerism with  Rotary Club of  Iloilo City  instills in the young Vanessa to give back to the community as well.

Vanessa tells me stories of how her mom takes her to gather tropical foliage and flowers to adorn their hair when they perform on stage or just one of those fun days with family members in their front yard. I guess Vanessa chooses to confide with her  mother  in matters like performing arts than other women will do otherwise because she blooms creatively with her mother in her arms.

I thought they are rare beauties. Precious.  However,  what is inspiring is to celebrate the unique and wonderful relationships between a mother and a daughter. Patricia is supportive. Vanessa is appreciative.

It works universally unique for a mother – daughter mirror image.

VANESSA SPEAKS OF HER MOTHER For many, our mothers are the real MVPs in our lives. I moved to the Philippines from Hawaii with my parents at eight years old. At the time, it was a big adjustment for a kid who left everything she knew. After 50 years of hard work, my father was ready to retire and return to his true home - Iloilo.

I cried in my mother's lap every day, wondering how I could get back to Hawaii. While I remember being in agony, I'm grateful for my parents moving to the Philippines because I can't imagine a life without its culture ingrained in me.

While I speak of past challenges, as a young adult today, I can't help but think of my mother, who had to adjust her life because of her love for me and my father. She was a professional Polynesian performer and designer in her prime for over 30 years in Waikiki. How could she pack up her things and leave.

As we celebrate International Mother Language Day today, I hope we also remember the people who teach us the language. I'm honored to have learned the Hiligaynon language (and continue learning it), but even more proud that after 15 years of living in Iloilo, my mother, part Visayan, instilled the importance of the English language. Without her, I couldn't communicate with people worldwide, share this story, and post this today.

VANESSA CARO and GLORIA DIAZ The Look-a-like

 VANESSA CARO  and GLORIA DIAZ

DOPPELGĀNGER or DÉJÀ VU ?

Doppelgänger in German means double walker or who is biologically unrelated look-alike, or a double, of a living person while déjà vu is a French word expressing the feeling that one has lived through the present situation before.
Many friends been telling me Vanessa Caro, Miss U Ph 2022 Iloilo Province, looks like Gloria Diaz, the first Miss Universe winner from the Philippines. Vanessa is unconscious about it. They have the same pouty lips, the same nose shape, shape of eyes, same jet black straight hair, same smile and the prominent intellectual looking forehead. Most of all, Vanessa talks like Gloria Diaz--sharp, witty, wise. We all have our look-alike in life. Who is yours? A celebrity? A friend? A neighbor? Isn't it fun?

Vanessa Caro has the same exotic and Asian feature as Miss Gloria Diaz

Vanessa Caro striking resemblance to Miss Gloria Diaz- the shape of eyes, nose and lips. Both have long straight hair. Their smile also is also similar.

Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz and Miss Iloilo Dinagyang 2016. Vanessa is as eloquent as Miss Diaz  in smartness and wisdom.
